Most employers in South Carolina are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance to their employees. The coverage applies to all employees, regardless of how long they have been employed and extends to injuries and illnesses that occur on the job or as a result of job-related activities. However, certain employers are not required to offer workers’ comp coverage, such as those with less than four employees or with a yearly payroll below $3,000. Independent contractors, sub-contractors, and third-party vendors are not typically covered by workers’ comp.
